 Because `trunk` is open for business, we should go back to using the
 traditional flow for committing and backporting (commit to `trunk` first,
 [https://make.wordpress.org/core/handbook/best-practices/backporting-
 commits/ then backport the commit]).

 [attachment:"45814-trunk.diff"] applies cleanly to `trunk` for this.
