Comment (by lkraav):
I'm actively using private parent pages and Inclusive Parents plugin, with
a small patch on top of current master to get rid of various PHP notices.
See https://github.com/lkraav/inclusive-parents
Main use case: including admin-manageable content partials via various
shortcodes in various published pages.
No such partials are ever supposed to become published, and I have private
page trees, sometimes more than one.
Feedback for the latest comment:
> Someone added ux-feedback keyword 4 years ago (so 6 years into the
ticket), and I think it's because it's not really obvious what should
happen with Pages that are private or draft or future.
> Should they show up in the dropdown lists?
Yes, including their status like `Title (private)`, if anything other than
published.
All dropdowns should be Select2-based for easy searching.
> Should you be able to make a child page for Page that is not Published?
Yes. Private page trees are completely OK.
> Does the child inherit the status? If so, does it inherit any change in
the parent Page status?
As long as frontend rewrite rules are able to load the page, any page in
the tree could be allowed to be whatever status admin wishes it to be.
> And if a parent Page is Published and then changed to draft or private,
what happens to the child?
Nothing happens. Same as above.
