 I tested `48420.2.diff` and I fixes most of the more important alignment
 bug and inconsistencies / regressions which came with WP 5.3.

 I'm in favor of committing these changes in 5.3.1, as a (great) first step
 concerning WP 5.3 bugs and small regressions.
