 On the topic of lazysizes/intersection observer - this is something that
 was asked of Alexander (the creator of lazysizes), who recently wrote up a
 fairly insightful comment on the GitHub issue that was raised requesting
 it: https://github.com/aFarkas/lazysizes/issues/263#issuecomment-518340398

 As was mentioned above, if lazysizes is being considered as a possible
 solution, there's a "native" plugin for lazysizes that caters for the
 browser native implementation of lazyloading:
