Comment:

 I'm going to close this out as a `maybelater` for a few reasons.

 First, if WordPress Core is going to switch like this, there needs to be
 clear and compelling reasons why a change is necessary. Where mediaelement
 falls short and how videojs satisfies those shortcomings also needs to be
 detailed.

 Second, research would need to be done into how plugins and themes are
 utilizing mediaelement (especially default themes and child themes of
 those themes), and a detailed plan needs to be created for how the switch
 would be made while maintaining backward compatibility.

 While the mediaelement library is currently slightly out of date by a few
 point releases, It has been 3 years since this ticket was updated, and no
 one has stepped forward with any of the criteria above.
