 Not sure what the design consideration was, but could it be that it was
 intentional as there space is more limited in a mobile view? I'm not sure
 that it's a bug (i.e. unintentional). There are differences from tablet
 sized viewport to phone sized view dropping the updates and WP menu items
 altogether as well.
