Comment:

 I believe this is to keep the original image intact and not rename it.
 Whatever sizes are defined, WordPress creates a thumbnail for each
 although the widths of the actual image and the thumbnail size are the
 same.

 So, in my opinion, it is a good practice to have each sizes separate from
 the original image rather than skipping creating a specific size or
 renaming the original file.

 Also, it sounds more logical to label it as an `Enhancement` rather than a
 `Defect` since it is not creating any roadblock in WordPress
 functionality.
