 Also, I may be missing something but shouldn't we be including pre-build
 (release) versions of the external packages when building WordPress? When
 updated packages (that have been tested and released "upstream") are
 available we can update them in package.json, even if that means we need
 to update it quite regularly at the moment.

 This is the proper way to include external packages :)
