 @JoshuaWold: this is great, thanks for flow sketch! On the surface, the
 one thing I would change would be to bring path 2 next to path 4 so that
 we can better highlight that they are functionally the same path.

 Also, I believe you may have forgotten to note, in path 3, that the
 Gutenberg plugin gets deactivated right at the beginning (after
 ''WordPress 5.0 is available!'').
