 As mentioned in your other ticket, Gutenberg isn't yet part of WordPress
 Core. Please submit related issues on GitHub instead:
 https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/

 This is some very helpful feedback so I'm sure they're happy to hear & do
 something about it.

 As for removing the whitespace: have you tried hitting backspace to remove
 it again?
