 I meant to add: It's one of those very important things that you don't
 know how to do, or that you need to do until you spend time hunting around
 or building a homepage in the wrong place.  This is one of those things
 that will help a user learn what they don't know.

 Also vanilla WordPress comes with a sample page which can easily be
 reconfigured to a Home Page and will exist in the very earliest moments of
 building a site.
