 Why do you ask me? :-) I merely fixed the spelling in the ticket.

 `<a href="…" lang="xy">…</a>` is totally fine. You don't need an
 additional `<span>` inside a link.

 Note that the blogroll feature in WordPress is deprecated and as such I
 don't really see a point in making any changes to it. People are
 encouraged to use custom nav menus as they are much more flexible.
