 This is indeed fairly standard behavior for default themes. The posts page
 does not use the usual single page template, and so the image does not
 appear. The option for setting the featured image remains when you attempt
 to edit the page though, so this can be confusing:

 [[Image(https://cldup.com/0awvUJtW5b-3000x3000.png)]]

 From a design perspective, it might be nice to allow users to add a
 featured image to the top of the posts page. But this is fairly low
 priority, and something that should be considered for a future release.
