 Would love to see this make it in to an upcoming version. What needs to be
 done to make this happen?

 Terms don't have a lot of features to "support" out of the box. I can't
 see a Term existing without a title or slug. The only other property would
 be "description". In order to be able to integrate this, do we need to be
 able to specify a "supports" property that's empty and have WP hide the
 description field from UI and REST responses? Would that be all that's
 holding this back from being merged?
