 To further the calendar/date picker discussion, I'm thinking for the sake
 of the 4.9 release that we should just keep the design similar to the
 WordPress admin and come back to this point later.

 It seems like a bigger issue than I was originally thinking.

 So, unless there are objections I'm going to plan to keep the prototype
 without a calendar date picker for now.
