Comment (by mor10):
I think some of the issues raised here and elsewhere about the
expectations of people who see this callout can be addressed by improving
the copy. The current copy is sparse on information and doesn't clearly
state what you agree to when clicking the "Install Today" button.
The current text reads:
''"WordPress is working on a better way to control your content. How about
giving it a try early?"''
This there are two parts to this: The introduction, and the call to
action. They should both be more descriptive and provide additional
information.
Something like this may work better, but needs refining or rewriting:
''"WordPress is working on a new editing and content management
experience. Test drive the future of WordPress and provide feedback to the
development team by installing the beta plugin today!"''
Copy along these lines properly introduces what Gutenberg does right now,
tells people in plain language they are test driving the new experience
and that it is a beta feature, and asks for people to take part in the
beta testing. An invitation to participate through feedback will likely
entice more people to take a look while at the same time framing them in
the reality that this is experimental and will have issues.
Like I said, this precise wording is not great and could be shortened and
improved by others, but I stand by my first statement. Much can be solved
by improving the copy in the callout. In my opinion.
