A small naming point: shouldn't the function names be camel-cased, i.e.
`wp.date.dateI18n` instead of `wp.date.date_i18n`? Or if too awkward,
maybe a different name?
I see some value in aligning APIs between PHP and JavaScript, but not to
the point of breaking language-specific conventions.
