Comment:

 This is superseded entirely by #37661. We've paused most if not all other
 tickets regarding this interface pending those changes, so I'd suggest
 bringing this discussion there, and starting by seeing whether the current
 patch there retains these issues. I think the added text on the
 interstitial loading indicator is a good first step there, and if I recall
 correctly the immediate live preview is no longer present for touch
 devices due to this issue.
