a screen reader useragent (as it's no use to them).

I wouldn't recommend that. First of all, for privacy and ethical reasons,
I wouldn't support screen readers detection. Recently, there was some
discussion about this issue on Slack and some important references are
mentioned on this same ticket, see comment:41 so I'll keep it short and
won't repeat the same argumentations. Apart from that, from a technical
perspective I'm not sure there are ways to detect screen readers, so this
discussion seems to be purely academic.

Also, thinking that screen readers are used only by blind people it's a
common assumption, and it's wrong. There are a lot of people with low
vision who use screen readers as an aid and for them CodeMirror could be
 of same use.

Lastly, I'd like to remind that the accessibility team recommendation, as
@rianrietveld summarised in comment:63, is to make the new code editor
preferably off by default. As a second, not ideal, option: on by default
with an easy to discover "switch" to the plain textarea.

@zersiax thanks very much for your feedback. What about joining the a11y
team and help us coding some a11y improvements? :)
