 Nobody said blindly drop support. The point of this conversation is to
 find a path forward. I've still not gotten any direct feedback on my major
 version proposal. Thoughts on serving PHP 5.2 users security updates only?
 (explained in more detail above)

 While WordPress is a big part of the web, you can not deny that this
 fractures the development community as a whole.

 WordPress has become an ecosystem unto itself, which for the PHP developer
 means it's incredibly difficult to work on either side of the fence.
 Perpetuating adherence to unsupported technology is just an ever growing
 technical liability.

 You keep coming back to "users first" - then find a solution that keeps
 them first, but also moves things forward.
