 It would be amazing if we could push this forward, I agree. Having an API
 change would be ideal, but short of that the end goal here is an improved
 navigation experience across backend and frontend, and on mobile.

 I tested the plugin too and apart from some fixes (color, hover, mobile
 view still has the dashboard icon, etc), from a UI point of view feels
 already an improvement. I haven't tested on multisite tho.
