 @dlh I just had a look at the latest patch. In #41332 I have one up for a
 similar enhancement for the 'attachment' post type which uses another
 approach. We should probably use the same for both post types.

 I'd appreciate if we could discuss this together for both tickets at some
 point, which method should be eventually used.
