Comment:

 Indeed good catch - I found one other control that had a
 {{{
 max-width: 300px;
 }}}

 and it is the wrapper around the New Page add dialog.
 [[attachment:32296-2.diff]]  is a fix for both the constrained select
 controls and the new page input/button combo.
