 Hi - to clarify, I am not an active member of the WordPress team but just
 chiming in because I have some knowledge in this area. The WordPress REST
 API is indeed part of the standard open source releases since a relatively
 recent update. It's also available on WordPress.com.

 I don't know anything about Python libs on top of the API. It's pretty new
 so I woudn't be surprised if there aren't many wrappers yet.

 I noticed about the audio files aspect of your post and changed most
 references to images, in my response, to files, but I missed a couple :)
