 That's my concern, that `ex:` or `e.g.` wouldn't have a short abbreviation
 in other languages.

 I think `#RRGGBB` is probably the best fallback placeholder text, even if
 `R` and `G` are not valid hex digits, as it's a placeholder not a default
 value to be re-used.
