 My opinion is that we continue to pursue the idea, but in plugin territory
 as a feature plugin. So far, there hasn't been a compelling plugin to
 handle this (which is totally technically feasible), and we don't really
 want it in the core API infrastructure just yet.

 I think it's valuable to continue tracking the issue, but with the
 resolution for now to implement in a feature plugin and explore the idea
 further there.
