 Personally I think that having the squares in addition to the arrows makes
 it easier to understand, but at the same time I am worried about overly
 complex icons.

 What we really should do is come up with a couple options, say just
 arrows, then arrows with squares, then maybe just radio buttons inside the
 boxes, and run user tests.
