 I was able to reproduce the issue on a clean install in the latest Chrome
 (52.0.2743.116 and 53.0.2785.89) exactly as shown on the video.

 The markup is correct though, so if the browser downloads both versions of
 the image in certain conditions, it's up to the browser, I guess.
