 Replying to [comment:33 afercia]:

 Added all from the comments above including `preventDefault()` on Enter
 and Tab. Left the CSS changes / highlight color for #27555.

 Feel free to tweak/fix everything that needs it, or let me know if
 anything is not working properly (anything else than Safari + VoiceOver
 announcing the wrong element as selected...).

 This would also need more testing in various browsers.
