 I think there should be a check put in place to stop users from
 registering with none alpha characters, or at least this is what my
 annecdotal evidence suggests.

 I had a member register with a user name of colon semicolon, for some
 reason they thought is was a joke so they put in a smiley face.

 That user did not show up in my user list all member view, I was however
 able to see them in another view and I asked them to change their name to
 something sensible, but I still had issues finding them in the user list,
 then later the account broke completely with the user not being able to
 log in with the correct password. I ended up having to delete that member
 profile and start from scratch.

 So I'm concluding that there is a problem with those characters in some
 way, or maybe the username was just too short.
