 @westonruter Those are fair considerations. I'm not sure whether my
 reasons in favor of displaying the notifications at the top of the
 container overcome them, but here they are:

 1. The notifications are not visible when the control is taller than the
 available space (see screenshot).
 2. Users might consider it inconsistent for notifications to appear above
 inputs sometimes and below inputs other times (but that is only
 speculation).
