 After discussion in weekly Core meeting, it was decided not to use
 abstract classes at this point.

 Therefore [attachment:36492.5.diff] is an iteration built upon
 [attachment:36492.3.diff] which however includes the internal structural
 improvements from [attachment:36492.4.diff].
