Comment:

 I have just added a patch.
 In order to make this work I also have another custom plugin that makes
 use of these changes.
 The plugin is based on the excellent plugin from Pantheon
 (https://github.com/pantheon-systems/solr-power).
 If you need it I can send it, but I think there is point to create a
 public repository for it since no one will be able to use it unless they
 have the specific patch.

 This is my first attempt to change wordpress core files, so please be
 gentle if there is something I've done wrong :)
