 @reidbusi https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/34924 which is related,
 explains more; defining v1, not v1_2 which is not available on some
 versions, will negotiate the highest version. Thats why the fix there, and
 what I did, should work fine. I don't see how wp_cron is relevant here.
