Comment:

 Did a quick test and can't see any file extensions changed/overwritten.
 `.jpeg` remains `.jpeg` no matter what (as it should be). Perhaps this is
 caused by a plugin or your theme? Can you re-test with plugins disabled
 and one of the default themes.
