 Because it's not inserting correct data in
 `_site_transient_update_plugins` option, see comment:9.

 There are two patches here, we just need to decide which one is the way to
 go. I agree with dd32 in comment:10, we should not hide a developer error,
 but perhaps should provide better debug data, so I'm leaning to
 [attachment:33330.2.diff].
