 This is really not the reason why there is an anti-wp sentiment. This is a
 nice feature but not a feature that lot's of people want to see in
 WordPress. Most of the WordPress users don't really know what SVG's are.
 They will upload a JPG or PNG instead. Since WordPress powers a lot of the
 web, things need to be thought carefully.

 I personally haven't had the change to look into it but I really would
 love to. I will be looking at things around uploading media for 4.6 and
 have put this on my personal roadmap.
