 KSES is a specific limitation for anonymous and non-administrative
 authors.

 I'm not sure if this is the same source of problem, but I'm an
 administrator on a WordCamp site (can't use a plugin), and adding an aria-
 label to a span in widget content, gets removed when the widget is saved.
 This results in less-than-ideal content for screen readers.
