 @ocean90 & @ericlewis do either of you see any remaining issue?

 Can we commit this before the merge window closes? I would love to get it
 into core so it gets some wider testing. I really believe we need to fix
 any incompatibilities in our code at this point rather than holding back
 bringing these libraries current; hopefully any issues that come up can be
 quickly resolved... if not, we can always revert!
