Comment:

 Added a new patch that should fix some if not all issues. I also added a
 method to check if it's an animation which I also added to GD for reasons
 azaozz mentioned found at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/280658/can-i
 -detect-animated-gifs-using-php-and-gd.
