 Hey there,

 The Git mirror at https://develop.git.wordpress.org already contains a
 .gitignore file, just like https://develop.svn.wordpress.org. Right now,
 the Git repository at https://github.com/wordpress/wordpress is a mirror
 of https://core.svn.wordpress.org, but the plan is to eventually make it a
 mirror of the develop repository (see
 https://meta.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/633).
