 My original idea of how to implement it was down that route... my concern
 was beyond feeling a bit weird, if someone passes an array into the
 functions as they exist now for $meta_key, how badly does it break things?
 Inevitably that would end up happening, and I'm not as familiar with past
 changes like this (if there have been any) how those were handled and how
 the possibly breakage was handled. Considering WP is supposed to be super
 backwards compatible would this go against that?
