 Not true :) Some code bases simply do not work on older versions of PHP.
 Amazon's AWS SDK for example. So in that instance, it's needed.

 Bully because WP would be saying "Hey, here's this thing we're not
 technically requiring for using yet, but we're going to leave all the

 support it, even though there isn't (currently) a security related or
 feature related reason to do so."

 I'm not talking about hosts (though as someone who works for one, I
 probably could). I'm talking about the end users who would be hurt by this
 and hosts could rightly say "Even though WP doesn't need to require PHP
 5.3, they decided to do this."

 That would hurt the relationship with the community far more than
 supporting PHP 5.2 as a ''minimum'' requirement.
