 Of course they do! However, we'd all much prefer to sacrifice a little on
 our end so that the process is much easier for everyone.

 I don't know, but honestly, that isn't really the point of this ticket. I
 know it has been discussed above, but partly it is just a distraction.
 What we're asking for is some insight into a clear and concise strategy
 for bumping the PHP version. I think that WordPress needs to put it's
 philosophy on this in writing, both so that the community knows what is
 going on, and so that next time we and our posterity will have that
 established philosophy to guide them.

 [None of that is meant to be snarky. Please don't take it that way :-)]
