 Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems like doing this in 4.4 would
 kind of defeat the purpose of splitting the REST API merge into a multi-
 stage process: Infrastructure in 4.4, the goodies in 4.5.

 @danielbachhuber also has a [comment:4 point] about the JSON schema not
 having been finalized yet.
