Comment:

 The consensus I've gotten from the core team, and specifically helen, is
 that at some point those screens will be rewritten using a settings api,
 but in the meantime adding generic hooks that could cause issues with
 future compatibility is not a good idea. Maybelatering given this and the
 lack of interest over the last 14 months.
