 As I understand using the customizer is now demanded for all themes.

 But it is too complicated for many users. The options are too nested, text
 fields not appropriate etc. And sometimes functions are missing. Also
 there are problems with the length of the labels in the small sidebar
 (especially when translated).

 There should both options be possible, using the customizer and the old
 "Theme Options".
