 I still like to use the post formats capability on my blog, but have been
 disappointed by the fall-off in activity around the feature. It may be a
 good indicator that the feature should be extracted to a plugin so that
 the data and behaviour will be consistent across themes, and the plugin
 can evolve separately from core. I've long been using
 https://github.com/crowdfavorite/wp-post-formats to present a basic UI for
 when I create posts. Maybe that plugin would make a good starting
 point...? I'll have to look at how the current core functionality is set
 up.
