 @SergeyBiryukov I added it to the function.php file of my child theme,
 however it did not change anything for me.  None of the pages updated to
 make AdSense visible again.

 When I put clean AdSense code back into a page I could see the ad in the
 backend editor, but once I clicked save it revert to a blank space again.
