Comment:

 The only place left in Core that uses `default_comment_status` and
 `default_ping_status` is in `class-wp-xmlrpc-server.php` and I'm not sure
 the best way to test the changes made to that file so I'm hesitant to make
 changes I can't verify. I've uploaded a patch that fixes the filter
 though.
